Iceberg Ahoy! A Science Investigation.

We have been making some inquiries about the sun.  The children have posed questions and worked to find answers.  We have been talking about how the sun can melt things.  We decided to see how long it would take to melt a chocolate rabbit and how long it would take to melt an iceberg.
On the day we wanted to melt the rabbit the sun hid behind a cloud.... so we decided to use  a heater instead.  Ron the rabbit melted before we had even finished reading a story!

On Wednesday we built an iceberg.  It was hard work but we got it done!  You have to put salt between the ice cubes so it will stick together.  We discovered ice is really slippery.
We started to built it at the very beginning of the day.

Our iceberg came up to  Scarlett's wrist in height.
When it started to melt we could see the puddle getting bigger and bigger.

As the puddle got bigger the ice berg got smaller.

When the bus came to pick up the children at the end of the day it was nearly all gone......

Mrs Leahy was really clever and made a time lapse video. Watch here.
